Hell is Invisible…

May 14th, 2007 fnordboy 1 comment

PTV3 - Hell is Invisible…Heaven is Her/eIn the mail today I received the review copy of the latest Psychic TV (PTV3) cd, Hell is Invisible…Heaven is Her/e. This album is really, really good. I wasn’t expecting it to be this good. I had high hopes, but I figured with all these new studio albums from some of my old favorite bands that have come out and been really good (Throbbing Gristle’s Part Two, Dinosaur Jr.’s Beyond) that eventually one of them would have to suck. So far so good. The review will be up on soundsect.com in a week or so. Until then I will be playing the shit out of this disc.

Completely unrelated, I decided I need to start getting some money together. I am starting to mentally go through what I can eBay, and have come up with a number of things. I have a couple of pairs of sneakers that I have bought in the last year that I never even used because I wasn’t 100% happy with the fit or the look. One of the downsides of ordering online and being a procrastinator about sending things back. I also have a number of DVDs that I really don’t need/want anymore. Those will take me longer to go through and get together ready for sale, but it’s time. All this shit is just taking up space here and it’s money that could be sitting in my bank account. I also have a website to finish for a client, I need to get cracking on that. It would be nice to have a few more hours in the day to get all this done.

Saving money.

May 11th, 2007 fnordboy 5 comments

I decided this week that I need to save up some money and get a good quality digital camera. I already have a few decent point and shoot cameras, but I want something that I can have some control with. The Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 has been on sale basically everywhere this week, but I just don’t have the money for it.

Nice looking camera, good price for what it can do. Decent specs. It’s been a long time since I have been this interested in doing new photo work. Maybe in a month or so I will have enough free funds to think about picking this up.

A sigh of relief?

Hopefully after this test.

I did something that I have put off for a long time. I finally upgraded WordPress. It was extremely painless. I expected much, much worse and so far I haven’t noticed any problems. Hell, even my theme still works.

^ Just testing the new lightbox plugin I added.

I just learned a little while ago that one of the biggest influences in my life died.

Robert Anton Wilson you will be missed.

I would write more but I am just really bummed about this.

RIP RAW

When in doubt…

I read this over at Stewie’s blog, and figured WTH.

Finish the sentences:

1. I’ve come to realize that my family…
… is a burden and will be the death of me.

2. I am listening to…
… Scott Walker’s fantastic album The Drift.

3. I talk…
… to myself at times.

4. I love…
… a lot of things. Some that people know, others that they don’t.

5. My best friend…
… once asked me if he could hook up with a girl I liked at the time. After I said, “sure” (not meaning it of course) he proceeded to tell me about how they just hooked up.

6. My first kiss was…
… with a fetching young lass down the block.

7. I lost my virginity…
… to a compulsive liar.

8. I hate it when people…
… exist.

9. Love is…
… like licking the ass of a dead squirrel that’s laying bloated in the sun; but also… there’s a negative side?

10. Marriage is…
… a right-wing agenda.

11. Somewhere, someone is thinking…
… that fnordboy never blogs. I am here to prove them wrong.

12. I’ll always…
… hate working.

13. I have a secret crush on…
… someone famous.

14. The last time I cried was because…
… of exhaustion.

15. My cell phone…
… kicks all other cell phones’ asses.

16. When I wake up in the morning…
… it takes nearly everything in me to get up to face the day.

17. Before I go to sleep at night…
… I put in a TV show DVD to fall asleep to.

18. Right now I am thinking about…
… having another cigarette.

19. Babies are…
… tiny sacks of evil.

20. I get on myspace….
… and ask myself “why?” on a daily basis.

21. Today I…
… accomplished nothing I set out to do.

22. Tonight I will…
… sleep.

23. Tomorrow I will…
… probably not accomplish anything either.

24. I really want…
… a lot of material and unnecessary items.

25. The person who most likely to repost this is…
… nobody.

Flock, Runway & Reviews…

July 14th, 2006 fnordboy 2 comments

It’s been awhile since my last update, when I of course said I would be updating more. I just checked and it is a month to the day actually.

Flock. Well, I used flock for a few days after I had made my initial blog post about it. I ended up not using it anymore once I realized how much of a pig it was. That browser sure sucked up some memory. I was talking with Alien Redrum about Flock and I don’t remember who, but one of us thought to look at the processes running on Windows and noticed that this thing was using like 10x the amount of memory that Firefox used. I closed the browser and haven’t looked back. Maybe I will relook at it down the road, but for now it is back to Firefox.

Speaking of Firefox, I noticed something interesting in the stats of a new website that I started with a friend of mine called Soundsect. I was looking through the stats of the visitors to the site and noticed something I had never seen before, Internet Explorer was not the top browser used by the visitors to my site. It was in second, but a distant second. I haven’t really kept on any of my other sites’ stats in the last few years, so maybe that has been a fairly common trend, but I was surprised. The stats as of sometime yesterday afternoon are:

  • Firefox: 59.8 %
  • MS Internet Explorer: 28.8 %
  • Safari: 6.5 %
  • Opera: 4.3 %
  • Mozilla: 0.3 %
  • UP.Browser (PDA/Phone browser): 0.1 %

Pretty damn surprising, IMO. Also, to be fair the site is geared towards a younger crowd, who would be more inclined to adopt Firefox as their browser of choice. It was also interesting to see that I was not the only one checking out the site on my phone and Palm.

So, what’s the “Runway” in the title? Just to piss off a certain someone I just needed to mention that the new season of Project Runway started this past Wednesday and it looks to be one hell of a season. Lots of potential drama in the works it seems. Not sure who I am rooting for yet, hell, it took a number of episodes for even Santino and Jay to grow on me. Can’t really tell who has any real talent yet, but some of the designers definitely surpised me in the first round. I expected some crap by a few individuals and they seemed to turn out some decent pieces. We’ll see.

Expect another post in the next day or so, I want to talk about OBEs a bit since it was a topic on Opie and Anthony this morning and made me remember some of the weird things that happened to me in my youth.

This one’s for you, Freak!

February 28th, 2006 fnordboy 7 comments

Yay! A new post.

I haven’t felt like posting much lately… most of you know why. Today FreakMagnet left me a comment complaining how I don’t update this blog, so in honor of her today I will revisit the old standby of “what weird searches bring people to my blog”. Of course it has to have a FreakMagnet slant. LOL!

I got one search hit via MSN for the term: Is Billy Squier gay

Yes!

Of course that made me think of you Freak. :)

I promise to update more often from now on since things have sort of settled down.

Posting about posting

Inventive title… I know. :\

I had all these ideas to write about over the past few weeks and I just never got around to any of them. I am such a slacker sometimes. I figured I should just put them down here so I won’t forget them and maybe come back to them at somepoint. Unfortunately they all require some effort on my part…

  1. I recently reread the amazing book House of Leaves and came across a quote in it about photography. Some of you may know that I was this: |—| close to getting my BFA in Photography before I decided I hated school and wasn’t learning anything new so why waste my time and dropped out. It was a great quote about what makes photography art and I just can’t seem to find it again in the book. Eventually I will come across it again.
  2. I planned on writing about all my great gifts that I got for Christmas but I just never got around to it. I figure it is probably a little too late at this point though. Let’s just say I am writing this post in some kick ass Cthulhu Slippers.
  3. I am currently reading Disinfo’s Book of Lies: The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult and there was a great quote in it about the perceived reality in one of Genesis P-Orridge’s essays and I had a whole great entry planned in my head, but I just have not sat down to actually put it together. One day.

So those are the more interesting entries I had planned to do. Hopefully I will get around to some of them soon.

I will say one thing on the Christmas gifts I received this year. This blog influenced at least 2 people to send me Give Me Your Tots items this year. And to that I say, “Sweet.”
